Tree of Life – Folk inspired
Mixed Media on canvas. This image was inspired as I was contemplating Revelation 22:2: On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
I love the message of life, rest, strength, and longevity that the idea of trees evoke…and trees have an incredible range of imagery in my Christian spiritual roots. I collect images of trees from other artists, and they frequently find a place in any type of art I create!
This is a folk art “Tree of Life” with 12 blossoms painted on a gallery wrapped canvas with acrylics and watercolors over a collaged background of old Bible pages from the Psalms. The twelve blossoms represent the crops of fruit that will be enjoyed by those who eat it…and of course there are many leaves as the nations are in need of great healing…An antiquing glaze over the entire piece contributes to its “old” feel. Hand written portion is from Proverbs 3:18 and says “Wisdom…is a tree of life to those who take hold of her…happy are all who hold her fast.” The number “12” has spiritual significance in our Christian faith…it represents healing, authority, and the body of Christ. This tree will add a subtle witness of your walk of faith where ever you place it!
