For the Morning:

We love this verse, especially when we feel pulled in many directions...it is easy to put our own interpretation into the words "Be Still"...but the Hebrew word here doesn't mean just to pause or stop, tho' there are facets of those meanings in the fullness of the word.

The word is "raphah" - does that look familiar to you? It's because 'rapha' is the word for healing and is part of God's name as Jehovah-Rapha, the God who heals (Exodus 15:22-26). While there are things we can fix, so much of it is better left to God, Jehovah Rapha (Rophe) – the God who heals. “Heal” is how the Hebrew word “rapha” is usually translated in Scripture, but the heart of the meaning of the word is “to mend, repair, or restore something to its normal or useful state”.

The definition of 'raphah'/be still, according to Bible Study Tools, is: 1) to sink down, 2) to sink, drop, 3) to sink, relax, abate, 4) to relax, withdraw. It pictures letting our own arms and hands relax, to stop trying to do things out of our own effort, and to let God show His might, power, and glory in whatever situation we find ourselves in. It is truly another way of saying "Not by might, now by power, but by My Spirit" (Zechariah 4:6).

So today, let us relax our white-knuckled grip on our lives, and let Him show Himself strong on our behalf! Be Still!

It's time for #Fridayintroductions, and since I've been gone so long, I thought it was a great way to get back into the 'posting to social media' world. I'm sharing the different images I have used over the years - the one that matches my current user photo was taken in 2020 - it might be time to update! My name is Cindy Fort, and I'm a trauma-informed counselor and facilitator for therapeutic expressive arts. It is my heart to walk along you in your healing journey, no matter how deep the wound is. The Lord has called me specifically to the DID folks...but we are all so precious to Him, and it is my privilege to help you and me plumb the depths of His love to each of us. Every scripture in the Bible, rightly interpreted, offers healing, growth, hope, and instruction for navigating our complex lives and world.

My goal is to help you understand the ancient wisdom of the Scripture to help you find pathways to peace in the present.

I enjoy digging into the scripture, and learning to have a Messianic Jewish lens over these past few years - thus the name of my website and social media - the twelve tribes of Israel hold a wealth of application principles to our current spiritual lives. This past year, I have done a deep dive into the tribes, the Jewish months, the Hebrew letter and constellation associated with each month, and of course, all the Feasts and celebrations of each month. Our God loves to celebrate!

My phrase for this year is 'Be Still'. (The Holy Spirit has led in a theme of the year since 1986.) There are so many facets to that phrase, but right now I know that He is bringing to my inbox the confirmation(s) of what to focus on first this year. This is the inscription of blessing called "Chalking the Door"...an ancient non-Biblical tradition that is simply an externalization of the blessing in the graphic below. But if you research the true history of the magi's visit to Jesus, you would find out that there were probably 70 - 75 magi and a contingent of soldiers numbering around 400, plus all the camels, horses, wagons, and supplies. There is even consideration that the frankincense, gold, and myrrh were wagonloads of the stuff - and that it represented Daniel's wealth that was his due to his position of power within the government of Babylon. But, the traditions from centuries and millennia of church custom can still be enjoyed without violating God's wisdom.

Several years ago, I was introduced to "Chalking the Doors". The chalking of the doors is a centuries-old practice throughout the world, though it appears to be somewhat less well-known in the United States. It is, however, an easy tradition to adopt, and a great practice whereby we dedicate our year to God from its very outset, asking His blessing on our homes and on all who live, work, or visit them there.

Learn the 13 Attributes of God's Mercy this month!

We are in the Jewish month of Elul - During this month we focus on the forgiveness, mercy, and compassion of the Lord. Psalm 27 is recited as It is said that Psalm 27 helps us connect our souls with the experiences we we have in this world. Meditating on this Psalm brings peace and healing within our very being.

Another passage of scripture that is meditated upon is Exodus 34:6-7, where God declares His 'name' to Moses as He hides Moses in the cleft of the rock. These declarations are known as the 13 Attributes of Mercy, and indeed, they are a beautiful revelation of the compassion and lovingkindness of the Lord.

This period of mourning between 17 Tammuz and 9 Av

This period of mourning between 17 Tammuz and 9 Av is also a time when all people everywhere are encouraged to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, remembering its destruction and giving thanks for its restoration (Psalm 122 and 137).

And in the same way, we can pray for our own peace, for Jesus, our Prince of Peace, to heal our broken down, destroyed places and give thanks as we are
renewed,
rebuilt, and
restored.
